the first cut is the deepest

in the New York Times Magazine, Laura Guarenti, an obstetrician and the World Health Organization (WHO)'s medical officer for child and maternal health in Jakarta said, ''The fact is there is absolutely no medical value in circumcising girls. It is 100 percent the wrong thing to be doing. The circumcision of boys has demonstrated health benefits, namely reduced risk of infection and some protection against H.I.V.''

Two things.
One, having no teeth would probably lead to a ''reduced risk of infection'' of the mouth but we don't routinely pull out people's healthy teeth. Proper hygiene can also reduce the risk of infection.
Two, the studies on the link with H.I.V. are dubious and contradictory; at most, negligible. And is anyone really proponing mutilation as a method of curbing a sexually-transmited infection ?
Oh, yeah and also, the nerve cells in the male foreskin -the inner lining- has been shown to be identical to the nerve cells of the clitoris. And in a male adult, the equivalent amount of skin removed during circumcision is the size of a three by five snap shot.
Just thought you should know.
