EPILOGUE why does everything happen to me ?

While I was driving home from the doctor's office, somewhat relieved but still potentially irksome, a girl threw herself from a moving van onto the highway, and the van went on to collide into an another oncoming van.
When I first heard about this, 3 out of four were critically injured (including the girl on the road), and by the next day, three were dead and one wass accused of a pile of crimes including murder.
This happened close to the town where I live.
On the radio, they kept saying it happened on highway X but during the road condition update, they kept saying highway Y was closed.
Spatial reality has always been challenging to me so I need very specific directions. It turns out, I just had to take the same road I always take and eventually, in front of a blocked road -the final stretch-a dashing young country bumpkin would tell me exactly how to get home.
But on the highway, I needed to know NOW. I called Information. We chatted for a while, perused through some Ministry of transport listings, and when I asked for the state police, she said, Where ?
I saw no point in telling her where I lived since it's a one-cop town and I doubt he'd be waiting by the phone with an criminal carnage just steps away.
Well maybe there's s someone manning the phones, I thought.
Finally in the midst of trying to call the state police at the number she gave me, bf called.
What accident ? he asked.
The road ?! I raged. What do I?! Where do I go ?!
This was obviously not an approach he was ready to deal with.
He started with the familiar steps in his betterment program for me.
First, we calm down, he said. We stop the violence.

I.
Bit.
My.

Tongue.

A few hangups later, I basically told him I'd be home when I'd be there and asked him if there was anything else he wanted to add to the conversation.
He said no.
Then, I drove like a madman.

And I got to thinking about smash up derbies on the weekend when I was a kid.

I like smash-up derbies.

And apparently, so does this guy on the highway.
the lone survivor of his attempted suicide
